Our People Overview

Joanne Simmonds, LL.B, Director

Joanne Simmonds studied at Monash University, has practiced law in The Concourse, Beaumaris since 2002 and has over thirty years’ experience in the law.  Her focus is predominantly the areas of  Estate Planning, Wills, Asset Protection, Commercial Agreements, Business Sales and Purchases and Commercial and Retail Leasing. She also has extensive experience in advising clients in relation to Retirement Village Agreements and their financial implications.

John Willis B.Ec, LL.B (Hons) – Consultant

John attended Brighton Grammar School and went on to complete a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws at Monash University and was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1974. Practising law in Leongatha before returning to Beaumaris, John commenced legal practice in the Concourse in 1986.

John has vast experience across a wide range of law, practising largely in relation to Trusts, Business and Commercial Law, including large Commercial Litigation matters, with particular focus on complex Commercial matters and Agreements, for both corporate clients and individuals.

Rachael Maharaj LL.B BBusCom. GDLP Wills and Estates Lawyer

Rachael is our Probate Solicitor who is dedicated and focused on completing the steps involved in finalising the deceased estate, whilst working together with our clients to ensure that the stresses surrounding this are alleviated.

Originally based in Sydney, New South Wales, Rachael completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business and Commerce (Majoring in Marketing). She then went on to complete her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law and was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in February 2016 before relocating to Melbourne.

Rachael predominantly works with obtaining Grants of Representation (i.e. Probate and Letters of Administration), administering Estates including arranging for the redemption and/or transfer of estate assets, discharging liabilities, advising on and distributing the estate in accordance with the Will or the Laws of Intestacy. She also prepares Deed of Family Arrangements and Superannuation/Death Benefit claims on behalf of the Estate. Rachael continuously works towards improving her knowledge and expertise in these areas and has also worked on contested estate matters.

Julie Kerr, Conveyancing Clerk

Julie has many years experience in conveyancing. She will keep you updated and look after your sale or purchase efficiently and with a minimum of fuss to ensure your conveyancing matter settles on time.

Raelene Royce, Probate Clerk

Raelene has many years experience and is our senior probate clerk. Raelene is very also experienced in managing probate litigation matters. She works closely with Joanne Simmonds to ensure that your matter is dealt with promptly and accurately.

Rosalee Scriven, Senior Law Clerk

Working in conjunction with Joanne Simmonds and John Willis, Rosalee looks after matters such as Multi-lot Subdivisions, Duplex Development and Joint Venture Agreements, Retirement Villages, sales and purchases of businesses, and commercial and retail Leases.

Michelle assists Joanne Simmonds and John Willis process your matter. Her friendly and efficient manner will ensure you are always fully updated of progress.

Clare Taylor, Reception

Clare will be your first contact at Beaumaris Law. She will greet you and direct your enquiry to the appropriate person. Clare is also an invaluable assistant to Rachael in probate matters.
